19th Century French Pinfire Revolver of 7mm Calibre By The Famous Maker Eugene Lefaucheux

A very clean and medium sized pocket pinfire revolver with crisp foliate engraving across the frame and cylinder with the Lefaucheux Makers Mark and serial number 6803 marked on the octagonal rifled barrel.

The trigger is stamped "Invre E. Lefaucheux Brevete SGOG? (Par s).

The finish is in clean steel and is in very good condition indeed.

The double action only mechanism is likewise in great condition and the action is crisp.  The two piece wooden grip carries some bruising, but has no chips or splits.

Eugene Lefaucheux was the son of the famous pinfire inventor Casimir Lefaucheux and was born on 14th September 1832.

Casismir exhibited in the Crystal Palace Great Exhibition in 1851 and was awarded a Medal of Honour for his revolving pistol.  He passed away on the 9th August 1853 when Eugene was 19.

Eugene was well versed with the pinfire system, having been apprenticed to his father from an early age and at this time moved to Belgium (the centre of European arms manufacture), to increase his knowledge.

It was in 1854 that Eugene filed the first patent in his own name since taking over the family firm and is now known as the 1854 model.

This 1856 model is a very good looking piece.
