Although much of this piece is in fair condition, we have listed it for restoration mainly due to the swivel ramrod, which is detached from the barrel (looks as though it was previously glued).
Showing some pitting, the steelwork is nevertheless clean but worn which has removed nearly all of the official stamps, except for a very faint date of 1849 behind the hammer on the tail of the lock.
The brasswork is in good condition, as is the stock except for some filler around the lock, indeed it is a little too good compared with the steelwork, so I believe it has had some "restoration" work already carried out.
The mainspring is weak and the action is soft, although it does hold in half and full position.
This model of pistol was the U.S. Army's first shift into the percussion cap system and was used during the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War.
A good looking, if tired example of this important American Military pistol.
