With foliate engraving entirely covering the body, hammers, hinged buttcap and with elements of the design extending to the barrel muzzles and the head of the rammer.
The round rifled barrels are smooth and have a nice even dark grey aged patina.
The body of the pistol retains much of its browning and blue/black case hardening.
The one piece walnut grip is in fine condition with a cross hatched diamond patina carved into it and the engraved steel buttcap carries a hinged compartment for spare percussion caps.
The all steel stirrup rammer is held in place by a clip and socket attached to a rib underneath the barrels.
The mainspring is strong and both actions are crisp in half and full positions. There is some damage to the left hand hammer.
The lack of Proof Marks has left me a little unsure of where to place this piece, in style I would have said English, but it was a legal requirement in Britain to Proof Mark the barrels. Maybe it was made on the Continent for an English Officer?
Whatever the case this is an attractive pistol that has been looked after.
Barrel length 13.5cm, Overall length 29cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license.
