A nice clean flintlock pocket pistol with a top sliding safety catch.
The steelwork is clean and has a pleasant even dark grey patina with engraving to both side of the boxlock.
On the left side is an oval cartouche with "Salmon & Co" inscribed behind which is a Stand Of Arms. The other side is the same but the cartouche is empty.
The barrel and body are stamped with the Birmingham Proof Mark and the trigger guard has a flower head engraved pattern.
The mainspring is strong and the action is smooth and crisp in half and full position.
The sliding safety catch engages as it should and the frizen is smooth.
The one piece walnut slab sided grip is plain, but in good condition.
Unfortunately the barrel is presently seized and is marked with some bruising. If indeed Salmon & Co were the makers of this piece rather than a retailer I can find only one Salmon who possibly fits the bill, Joseph Salmon who was apprenticed to the London Gunmaker William Shepherd in 1763.
On the whole, a good condition flintlock pocket pistol of the Georgian period.
Barrel length 4.5cm, Overall length 16.5cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
