Bakcou Mule SD Description

Conquer Any Terrain With The Mule SD
Born from the heritage of Bakcou’s flagship Mule, the Mule SD takes everything riders love about the original workhorse and supercharges it. At its heart is Bafang’s ultra‑powerful M620 mid‑drive motor often called the “diesel engine” of e‑bike motors, which churns out up to 160 Nm of torque. This torque‑rich motor, paired with an 11‑speed SRAM NX drivetrain and removable thumb throttle, delivers the hill‑climbing muscle hunters and off‑road riders need. A 52 V 20 Ah lithium‑ion battery powers the system, and Bakcou’s modular rack lets riders add an extra 15 Ah or 20 Ah battery to double the range, up to 40 Ah total, eliminating range anxiety on long hunts and multi‑day expeditions.

Built around an aircraft‑grade 6061‑aluminum frame with a patented rear rack, the Mule SD balances strength and agility. Its inverted 120 mm air‑fork suspension and shock‑absorbing seat post smooth out rocky trails and washboarded dirt roads, while 24‑inch or 26‑inch fat tires (CST or Maxxis Minion) provide unrivalled traction on mud, sand and snow. Four‑piston Tektro HD E725 hydraulic disc brakes deliver confident stopping power, and wide, skid‑proof pedals offer secure footing even with heavy boots. An integrated stem display with Bakcou’s On‑Demand Program (ODP) lets riders choose between Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 modes, while Bakcou Connect technology (free the first year) gives remote security, tracking and diagnostic capability via smartphone.

Design

The Mule SD electric bike is built for serious backcountry performance, combining rugged durability with a more accessible step-through design. Constructed from 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum, the frame maintains strength while making mounting and dismounting easier—especially when carrying gear. Its balanced geometry keeps weight centered for improved control on steep climbs, technical trails, and uneven terrain, making it a reliable electric hunting bike for long days in the mountains.

Drivetrain

The Mule SD is equipped with a SRAM NX 11-speed drivetrain, delivering dependable performance and efficient power transfer across a wide gear range. With a 40T front chainring and 11–42T rear cassette, this setup is built for climbing steep terrain while maintaining speed on flats. Designed for real-world riding conditions, it offers a proven, serviceable system for backcountry use.

Motor and Power

Powered by the Bafang Ultra M620 mid-drive motor, the Mule SD delivers up to 160Nm of torque for serious climbing capability. The integrated torque sensor provides smooth, responsive power that matches your pedaling effort, giving you better control on technical terrain. Whether hauling gear or navigating steep mountain trails, this electric fat tire bike delivers consistent, reliable performance. Motor is capable of being set to comply with Class 1, 2, or 3 eBike settings.

The Bafang Ultra also uses triple gear reduction inside the motor, unlike the double reduction found in most competitors. The gears are helical-cut, which helps reduce noise. Of course it won’t be nearly as whisper quiet as Brose’s famous belt reduction mid-drives, or the Bafang BBHSD motor with its teflon gears, but it certainly won’t be as loud as the old school straight cut gears still found in some mid-drives.

Lastly, the Bafang Ultra incorporates a torque sensing ISIS bottom bracket. That results in extra smooth power application that mimics a rider’s natural pedal force (but amplified many times, of course). 

Suspension

The Mule SD features an inverted high-performance air suspension fork designed to handle aggressive off-road terrain. With up to 140mm of travel on the 26” model and 130mm on the 24” model, this system absorbs impacts from rocks, roots, and rough trails while maintaining stability and control. Paired with a suspension seat post, it provides a smoother, more comfortable ride over long distances.

Integrated Display

The Mule SD features a clean, integrated stem display that keeps essential ride data easily accessible without cluttering the cockpit. Designed for durability and visibility in rugged environments, it allows riders to monitor speed, battery life, and ride metrics while easily adjusting between Class 1, 2, and 3 modes with ease.

Braking System

Equipped with Tektro HD E725 quad piston hydraulic brakes and oversized 203mm rotors, the Mule SD delivers powerful and consistent stopping performance. This system provides the control and confidence needed when descending steep terrain or riding with added weight, making it well-suited for demanding backcountry conditions.

Tires

Built with aggressive 4-inch fat tires, the Mule SD is ready for any terrain. The 26” Maxxis Minion tires provide excellent traction and control on loose, rocky, and muddy trails, while the 24” CST option offers a more compact and maneuverable ride. Combined with puncture-resistant liners, these tires are built for confidence in remote backcountry environments.
