Description:
Brahms's two piano concertos are often referred to as "symphonies with piano" because the powerful piano part is overlaid with the profound sound of the orchestra. The Piano Concerto, composed in his mature period, is a masterpiece with Brahms's typical shadows, and the cello plays a melancholy solo in the third movement. The two masters, Gilleris and Jochum, and the Berlin Philharmonic give a performance of great scale that could be called "yokozuna-sumo," and it has long been heard as a representative masterpiece of this work. The disc also includes the "Fantasie" composed by Brahms in 1892, the last year of his life. Universal Music
